The
group was born
in the
tradition of
the famous
"Jordanaires"
quartet of the
of the Grand
Ole Opry fame
in the early
'50's, and the
have maintained
that close
harmony sound
to the present
day. Each
of the members
has a deep
background in
music which
explains their
quick rise to
popularity.
They paid their
dues in the
early years
playing
weddings, fox
hunts, pie
suppers and
home-town
celebrations of
all kinds.
Joplin,
Missouri, is
where it all
came together
for the Foggy
River Boys.
In 1967,
founders and
original
owners, Bob
Hubbard, Denzel
Koontz, John
Shepherd, Dale
Sullens and Bob
Moskop, cast
their lots
together to
form a musical
sound and style
that would put
them in demand
for appearances
throughout the
Midwest.
From the
beginning, they
chose to become
a
"show"
group featuring
every kind of
music from
country to
gospel,
barbershop to
popular. With just a piano and
Wyan Sims, on guitar, this group was in demand.
Starting
in 1971, the
"Boys"
became a part
of the Branson
music scene
when the began
performing in
their own
theatre in
Kimberling
City, Missouri.
When the
opportunity
arrived in
1974, they
relocated their
show to Branson
and opened the
official... Foggy
River Boys
Theatre.
For more than
23 years, the
group
entertained
millions of
Branson
visitors and
made countless
fans, more
affectionately
considered
friends!
Although the
faces on the
stage changed
through the
years, the
reputation as a
"class
act" was
and is still
synonymous with
the group.
Retirement
beckoned in
1993.
After selling
the theatre and
bus, Bob,
Denzel, Dale
and John found
themselves
enjoying a well
deserved
retirement.
It was nice
after
performing 23
years of eight
o'clock shows
every night to
finally see and
treasure an
Ozark Mountain
sunset.
Despite
enjoying the
fruits of
retirement, the
"Boys"
found
themselves
pursuing
interests
beyond the
stage.
Several took on
jobs outside
the music
business.
However, after
nearly 35 years
of singing
together, the Foggy
River Boys
couldn't resist
the opportunity
to continue to
accept
performance
engagements now
and then.
Every
now
and then,
you could find the group
dusting off the
old material
and performing
concerts around
and beyond the
state of
Missouri.
Whether
on-stage or
off, the Foggy
River Boys
were true gentlemen.
Staying true to
their original
mission of
bringing a
smile to a face
and a song to a
heart, Bob,
Denzel, Dale,
John, Carl,
Jerry and Mike,
were a positive
and genuine
slice of
American life.
The final
performance of
the Foggy
River Boys was
in July of
2002.
